Of all the ailments natural desiccated thyroid extract can heal, Personality disorders is not one of them. I’m afraid patients will be stuck with these unless they delve into therapy and indulge in self examination… As Mark Starr writes below:

“I attempted to treat one 40 year-old patient with chronic schizophrenia for hypothyroidism. He was completely unable to follow the prescribed thyroid therapy and treatment failed. Many of the more severe, long standing psychoses and personality disorders are refractory to treatment. However, other physical symptoms associated with thyroid deficiency will improve if the hormones are properly administered.”

Hi JOT – I`ve been looking for more info on mental illness as a consequence of endocrine problems (in fact a large percentage must stem from a hormonal imbalance), and I don`t just mean depression. So it was good to see your latest post, even though the writer`s experience is pretty negative regarding schizophrenia. I think its pretty obvious that if a person with schizophrenia is self administering, its going to fail sooner or later – it needs regular monitoring and support.

Quite a few people in my family have mental health problems and I`m sure they are either endocrine or auto-immune based.

I`m also interested in the astrological perspective. My son`s illness always gets worse at full moon and I know his illness is endocrine based.

Broda Barnes (see new post on him) automatically assumed any mental health disorders were thyroid related and prescribed natural desiccated thyroid meds. He was always after the truth, and not interested in what society says. (We have that in common too). Truth vs Society is apples and shoes.
The endocrine system in and of itself is ruled by the Sun because the Sun is our lifeforce. Without hormones, we have nothing to run our bodies. Each particular hormone has it’s own ruler so there are two co-rulers involved generally. Endocrine disorders especially inflammation are ruled by the MOON. Inflammation which causes blindness would also be ruled by the MOON. It’s quite possible that your son has inflammation at this time as the MOON rules the tides and the ebb and flow of life.

With Personality Disorders, all are ruled by Neptune as the general ruler. From this point you’d look at the Disorder and decide what other col-rulers may apply. For instance, with Narcissistic Personality Disorder, this is co-ruled by both Venus and the Sun. When the Sun or Venus is in the 1st house and rising, the closer to the Ascendant the greater the possibility of feeling a bit better/more important than others.

      Mars rules the Adrenals.
      Venus rules the Thyroid.

JOT – I must gen up on Broda Barnes, sounds interesting. Wouldn`t it save a lot of time and money if more mentally ill people were given endocrine tests – I worked in mental health for years and I`d say that most of the clients` root problems were endocrine based.

Can you recommend any reading about mental health and the planetary connections, e.g. where did you find out that a Narcissistic Personality Disorder is ruled by the Sun and Venus? I know it makes sense and wondered if its something you concluded yourself or whether there are other writers that think the same.

It sure would save a lot of time…and money as you say ! Too much playing society when we should be playing truth. Broda would do this automatically, he didn’t have time to fool around with people’s lives. (or the need to make them worse and blame them)

I put a medical astrology book up on the side bar and I will put a few more there for you and those who wish to study this end of it. As far as the personality disorders, this is my thing. Been studying them for over 30 years. It fascinates me the most. Neptune rules insecurity of the biggest measure which is what all these disorders stem from so I have always known. There is a book by another psychologist or maybe he’s a psychiatrist, I’ll try to find it for you. I will also put up more of my favorite study books on the sidebar…

Yes, I bought that when it came out – not too impressed either – seemed to throw some suspicion on Mercury/Venus aspects tho`, which I suppose could be relevant to a dysfunctional thyroid.
